ACA Health Insurance
What is an ACA EPO health plan?
An ACA Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) plan requires you to use in-network providers for all care except emergencies. Unlike an HMO, an EPO does not require a primary care physician or referrals for specialists. EPO plans typically have lower premiums than PPO plans.
Key Points
- EPO: requires in-network providers (except emergencies)
- No PCP or referral requirement (unlike HMO)
- Lower premiums than PPO plans
- Out-of-network care: not covered (except emergencies)
- An independent agent can help you compare EPO plans in your area
