What is the difference between a grandfathered and grandmothered health plan?
A grandfathered plan existed before the ACA (March 23, 2010) and has not made significant changes. A grandmothered plan (also called a transitional plan) was created after the ACA was enacted but before January 1, 2014, and was allowed to continue under a CMS transitional policy. Both types are exempt from some ACA requirements.
