What is dental and vision insurance and do I need it?
Dental insurance covers preventive care (cleanings, X-rays), basic restorative care (fillings, extractions), and major restorative care (crowns, bridges, dentures). Most plans have an annual maximum benefit of $1,000–$2,000. Vision insurance covers eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. Annual benefit typically $150–$300 for glasses or contacts. Both dental and vision insurance are not included in most health insurance plans (except some Medicare Advantage plans). If you need dental work or wear glasses/contacts, standalone dental and vision insurance typically pays for itself.
